An Introduction

Woodfield Amplifiers was founded by Mark Woodward, also known as "Woods", driven by a lifelong passion for valve technology. This fascination began in 1976 when he first encountered a valve from an old Vox combo... Explore more of Woods' story here.

Woods' interest in valve technology carried into his professional career, starting with his role as a Ground Radar and Navigation Systems engineer in the Royal Air Force in 1979 where he worked extensively with valve technology, expanding his understanding of the subject immensely.

Woods' electronics expertise deepened further as he transitioned into civil aviation, where, although valves were not used, he gained valuable knowledge about advanced materials, construction techniques and electronics looming for high-performance electronics.

Woods' career then took a turn into the high-octane world of Formula 1, where he joined the Benetton F1 team. Starting with testing roles, he eventually became part of the race team, spending the last 16 years focussing on driveline testing with cutting-edge Transient Dyno Systems. This work pushed mechanical and electronic systems to their limits, setting the stage for his next venture: Woodfield...

Build and Design Philosophy:

Founded in 2015 as a creative outlet for Mark's ongoing fascination with valve amplifiers, Woodfield Amplifiers represents the culmination of decades of research and engineering experience.

With roots in Formula 1 electronics, every Woodfield is produced with the same obsession for meticulous precision, efficiency and reliability that delivers peak performance. Every component is chosen, tested, and refined to merge the best designs from the past with modern advancements.

Woodfield takes the best designs from the past and enhances them with contemporary components, tighter tolerances, and advanced materials, producing amplifiers of exceptional quality and reliability.

The mission of Woodfield Amplifiers extends beyond creating top-tier valve amplifiers. It also aims to preserve the craftmanship, knowledge, and passion for valve technology, ensuring it is passed down to future generations of creators and musicians.
