Brand new to the market, this hand-built valve combo amplifier sports a traditional grill cloth and high-quality tolex covering, along with a heavy-duty handle and classy rugged control tops that let you know it really means business! It’s when you take a good look at the controls that you notice the amount of creativity and design that has gone into this amplifier’s electronics, and also notable is the care and attention in its overall construction.
Plugging in a Gibson Les Paul there are surprises a plenty as all of the controls are very reactive, meaning that you can create any sound that you may want to dial in; Never has a valve amp I've played been so versatile.
At first the range of different tones, textures, and gains take a bit of getting used to, but it doesn’t take long to sort it all out. The tonal options allow for many combinations of gain, drive, and sustain and are definitely this amplifier’s strong point. The cleans are nice and glassy whilst just a little less power control will break up the sound into an edgy growl, perfect for some Blues...turn down the output and step up the Vol/Gain control and the overdrive starts to happen with no shortage of gain if required.
It’s a compact combo and the lighter weight makes it very portable for a gigging or studio musician but make no mistake that this powerhouse is capable of rubbing shoulders with bigger and louder rigs whilst maintaining great tone and projection.

I've been a proud owner of the AFON 20 for a while now and I can say it's become my mainstay.
This amp is at its best when the power section is doing real work. The Celestion G12H Greenback loves being pushed, the AFON20 delivers that classic energy even at domestic levels.
Where it really starts to shine is in its ability to retain power-tube character without execessive dB levels. The variable HT/B+ control attenuates plate voltage to the power tubes,
producing beautiful soft clipping, early breakup and exceptional responsivity to feel whilst retaining that genuine power-amp tone, which makes it simply a dream to mic up in a small studio environment.
For my playing style, I typically live in the single-ended mode. This reduces overall power while thickening harmonic content and pairs beautifully with vintage-voiced pickups like Fender Fat 50s. It delivers a rich, touch-sensitive tone whilst keeping dynamics optimal without ever having a need to add an external attenuator. A few pedals, a good mic and you're set.
